Best Helmet

Best Helmet

Postby V8Patrol » Mon Jul 19, 2010 3:00 pm

Think I need a new lid.

The current one is a Fox V2 Pilot - only bit of Fox gear I've ever owned that lasted more than 1 ride.

Requirements :

Reasonable Ventilaton
Reasonably Light Weight
Not Cost The Earth

Would be good if it made me look better & ride better too

What should I get ????????????

That's a really hard question.

Try on as many as you can to find the one that fits your head best.

But IMO Arai make some of the best helmets.

Depends on your budget Dave, I have worn my new one a couple of times now and am quite happy with it. RRP $290. Has removable liner, comfortable padding, I haven't had an issue with the venting. Then again very little of my gear seems to be to the taste of others.

Any helmet should help you to look better Dave, as to helping you ride better then maybe you had best buy a Thor helmet and pray it really is aligned with the son of Zeus.
Anyhow, here's one model that should suit ya well, comes in a full range of colors and sizes.

Thanks for your input Daz.
I can't find a Thor helmet that looks like the pic though.
Guess I'll just have to look & ride as I do, with another brand.

Just had a look at one of those O'Neal Monster 8 Series helmets, Gruni.
Don't look too bad. Especially compared to some of the other crap they had in the shop.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a size to suit me so I couldn't try one on.

Did they have the same style helmet with different graphics maybe Dave... it is just one of their standard helmets with a cool paint job. I found the helmet size happened to be the same as my other dirt and road helmets... they may let you order in the size knowing that you may decide you don't want it, just because it is the type of helmet that would sell fairly quickly anyway???

Well, I think I've been to every bike shop in town except 1.

Nobody has a helmet that I like. Either is crap, looks crap, feels crap or wrong size.

There are a very few (2 or 3) that I found are really nice, light, well ventilated, fit well, super comfy - but poo graphics.
Oh, & naturally they are not cheap.

Maybe I'll just glue up my existing one for a while.
New helmet range comes out in 2 - 3 months from all the brands it seems.

Stick with the V2, handles hard roostings well, wait for Andy's footage from weekend. V2 fit my big ears better than any of the other 200 helmts I tried on.

This ticked nearly all the boxes - Except the cost.

Found my new helmet.
Nearly bought an M2R locally as an interim solution, but made some phone calls first.

$249 off 'cos they got it in for somebody who no longer wants it & they don't want old model stock when the new models come out soon.
& maybe 'cos I know the guy personally.

Makes you wonder what these things really cost the dealers.

So, I'll have a Fox V3 Carbon in Black, White & Gold on Friday or whenever I go to pick it up.
