Upper Yarra Reservoir ParkWe've camped @ Upper Yarra Reservoir Park a couple of times & love it there.
It's about 20mins drive from Warburton. If you ever been to Jells Park in Wheelers hill - it's similar to that but you can camp there. the gates to the park get locked after 6pm from memory but all campers get given a code to come in & out as they please. even if you turn up after closing time - no probs. That just keeps "unwanted" crowds out. Perfect family camping spot & VERY relaxed. It's huge there so no need for anyone to camp right next to you. Great facilities inc - hot showers, BBQ, pay phone(no mobile reception), camp kitchen & mess hall that can seat 100 people or so. Should be some great trail/mountain bike riding/4x4 tracks in the area. Rates are really cheap - currently @ $5.90 per adult per night & $3.50 per child per night. Can camp in your tent, caravan, bus, motor home etc. loads of space. http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/resources05/05_0481.pdf A couple of pictures of our campsite. Highly recommended. Cheers - Marty

Re: Caravan and Camping Areas... the good the bad and the ugly.OK, Here are the ones I remember.
Caravan Park Name: Powlet River Caravan Park Where:Kilcunda Vic Website N/A Facilites: Toilets, Showers, BYO enclosed campfire Plus's: The way caravan parks used to be, quite rough, no play pens for kids, only a huge open area, near a river as well as the ocean (only confident swimmers / surfers in the ocean, HUGE rips). Good fishing for salmon and brim in the river and open beach. powered campsites not so good Toilets can be a less than clean, Very exposed to the elements all year round. No camp kitchen or any refuge area for campers. Really only for experianced campers. 15 min drive to closest town. Caravan Park Name: Inverloch Foreshore Caravan Park Where:Inverloch Website http://www.inverlochholidaypark.com.au/ Facilites: Toilets, Showers Plus's: Nice campsites on deep couche grass. Most campsites are protected from wind. Right on the inlet beach which is great for kids swimming in clean water. Good fishing for brim, taylor and whiting. Close to town. not so good Summer gets crowded, don't leave your eskie out at night, kids will pinch your grog. no campfires allowed. Caravan Park Name: Cowes Caravan Park Where:Cowes Phillip Island Website http://www.cowescaravanpark.com.au/ Facilites: Toilets, Showers, camp kitchen, kids games room Plus's: Nice campsites. The beach is great for kids swimming in clean water. Good fishing for whiting and flatehead. Close to town. not so good Summer gets crowded. No campfires allowed. campsite can be very exposed (we broke our tent here)
Re: Caravan and Camping Areas... the good the bad and the ugly.
We usta stay there quite a bit, It was good for us cos' it is dog friendly. Owner is an alchoholic and the park managers couldn't really be bothered. This can work in your favour if you wanna light a big bon-fire and stay up all night after getting "asked to leave" the Killy pub They have a cheap cabin that suits the rest of the park, e.g. not really cleaned or maintained! and mainly caters for the on-site van customers that they have.
Re: Caravan and Camping Areas... the good the bad and the ugly. While I'm at it.
Gunbower Island. PDF information >>HERE<< Lots of awesome camping areas alongside the Mighty Murray River. Lots of good fishing (murray cod, perch)aswell as bushwalking, would be great for a MTB ride but its a bit flat and small for the trailbike (Have taken the XR up there tho, still had some fun in the old water channels) Can get really busy during the holiday period. Also a great Caravanpark at Gunbower. Website >>HERE<< (My Dad lives there!) Super owners, very clean amenities. They have about 6 new cabins and enough camping areas for a few! Also dog friendly, and will let passer-byers or campers use the showers for a minimal fee. Highly Recommended!
